Vancouver Canucks Playoff Anthem: Something Big (Shawn Mendes Parody)

The Vancouver Canucks are back in the NHL playoffs and thus we are thrilled to present our Canucks Playoff Anthem:  Something Big.  It’s based on the original song by Shawn Mendes.

Big
I’m joined by my regular collaboration partners:  the wonderful and talented Marie Hui and Arielle Tuliao.  They never cease to amaze me with their skills…in this video check out how they harmonize effortlessly while doing syncopated clapping…it’s NUTS!

We’re excited about a deep playoff run for the Canucks.  Something big is happening!  Go Canucks Go!

Clay’s Canucks Commentary for May 7, 2013: Hooray for Cliches!

The Vancouver Canucks are down 3 games to zero to the San Jose Sharks in their first-round NHL playoff match-up.  As they try to stave off elimination in this must-win game, I turned to my kids for their predictions.

Sean and Kayla are optimistic that the Canucks will still make this a competitive series, and they pulled out every sports cliche possible in expressing their optimism.

Meanwhile, Jacob took a more cynical approach as he worked in a few cliches and a bunch of thought-provoking questions regarding the Canucks’ future.

Clay’s Canucks Composition: Season of Cup (Our Team, Our Way)

For my first Clay’s Canucks Composition of 2013, I assembled four of the most talented Canucks fans around to put together a song to mark the start of the shortened 2013 season. Thus, I’m thrilled to present to you Season of Cup (based on Seasons of Love from RENT).

You’ll likely recognize most of the singers in this fun video.  Marie Hui helped me with my Canucks Medley in November 2011 while Arielle Tuliao and I got together for Don’t Stop Believing back in April for the Canucks’ playoff run.  I’ve been wanting to get these two amazing ladies together for a collaboration and I’m thrilled we made it happen!

The guys aren’t too shabby either.  Joseph San Jose is the star of all of my Canucks Christmas carols, and my good friend Gary de Guzman has one of the most pure voices around.

Put the four of them together (with me pounding on the piano) and you get a powerful anthem for the Vancouver Canucks as they look to get back to the Stanley Cup.

This is Our Team, Our Way…and Our Time.

Looking at the Bright Side: 5 Good Things about the Canucks’ Elimination

It’s been just over 24 hours since the Vancouver Canucks were unceremoniously eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Los Angeles Kings in just five games. As I outlined in my season-ending Clay’s Canucks Commentary, I was quite saddened and disappointed immediately after the game especially given the high hopes for the Canucks in the post-season.

After drowning our sorrows in some beef sashimi and salmon cones, my son Sean and I made it home just after 10pm. There, I was met by my lovely wife Gail.

“I’m so sad, disappointed and frustrated,” I lamented, “and I’m not even on the team!”

To which Gail replied “Well, you think you are!”
