Music to Roberto Luongo’s Ears

I took Luongo to Rome with me in 2013.
I took Luongo to Rome with me in 2013.

As Roberto Luongo makes his much-anticipated return to Rogers Arena to face off against his former team, I want to share 3 songs that we’ve done in the last past couple of years for the likable goaltender.

1.  End of the Road (We Thank You, Lu)

Marie Hui‘s emotional performance (moreso than my goofy spoken part in the middle) earned us a greeting from Luongo himself!

When Musical Bloggers Unite: Someone Like Lu

Harrison, Marie, and Clay

A couple of weeks ago, CHB favourite Marie Hui and I put together a tribute song to Roberto Luongo when he was traded to the Florida Panthers. We performed Boyz II Men’s smash hit “End of the Road“.

Well, it seems like I’m not the only blogger who likes to write songs about Bobby Lu. Harrison Mooney of Pass it to Bulis penned a farewell song to Luongo to the tune of Adele’s mega-hit “Someone Like You.” Harrison contacted me to help him with the music and within 5 seconds we had agreed to invite Marie to join us.

The result is a powerful and emotional song, courtesy of Pass it to Canucks Hockey Blog.

End of the Road (We Thank You, Lu) – Farewell to Roberto Luongo

endroad

After eight memorable and exciting seasons with the Vancouver Canucks, goaltender Roberto Luongo was traded to the Florida Panthers on March 4, 2014.

Thus, Marie (www.mariehui.com, @mariehui on Twitter) and I wanted to bid Bobby Lu a proper farewell.  Inspired by Boyz II Men, we proudly present our version of their smash hit “End of the Road”.

Make sure you get to bridge of the song at the 3:11 mark…you won’t be disappointed.

Clay’s Canucks Compositions: The Music of 2013

One of the ways I express my love for the Vancouver Canucks is by composing songs about the team.  It started back in 2010 when I put together my first Canucks Christmas Carol and over the past three years I’ve written 10 songs that have combined for over 92,000 hits on YouTube.

For 2013, I put together 4 songs:

  • Season of Cup (Our Team, Our Way) – January; 9,300 views on YouTube
  • Under John Tortorella – June; 46,500 views on YouTube
  • Against All Odds (Luongo’s Lament) – October; 4,500 views on YouTube
  • Last Christmas – December; 3,600 views on YouTube

A few quick facts:

-the four videos total 64,000 views on YouTube
-they’ve been featured on CTV, Global TV, the Huffington Post, Beat 94.5, Team 1040, Vancity Buzz, Canucks.com, and more
Marie Hui was gracious enough to appear in all 4 videos, while Arielle Tuliao was in 3 of them.  I know where my views are coming from – no one wants to see a middle-aged guy playing the piano.

2013 Canucks Christmas Carol: Last Christmas

It’s that time of year again: time for our 4th annual Canucks Christmas Carol!

Our song this year is inspired by Wham!’s “Last Christmas”.  We lament the lockout of last Christmas and look at the most important elements of this year’s team:  Roberto Luongo, Ryan Kesler, the Sedins, and head coach John Tortorella.

This year I’m joined by Marie Hui, Arielle Tuliao, Joseph San Jose, Pat Guevara, Pat Teodosio, and our favourite foreign exchange student Kevin who somehow always finds his way to my place to be in these videos.  In fact, both Joseph and Kevin have been in all 4 Canucks Christmas Carols!

Speaking of which, you can watch the previous 3 Canucks Christmas Carols here.

Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas!
