Archdiocese of Vancouver #WYDChallenge (JP II Pastoral Staff)

The staff of the Archdiocese of Vancouver at the John Paul II Pastoral Centre got together to celebrate the pilgrims traveling to Krakow for World Youth Day.

Thanks to our friends at Salt + Light for the challenge. In turn, we challenge all Canadian pilgrims (and especially diocesan offices) to put together their own #WYDChallenge video!

More importantly, we pray for all pilgrims traveling to Poland for World Youth Day.

#ClayinKrakow Day 1: Five Minutes Short

I’m blessed to be in Krakow, Poland for the next 5 days on a World Youth Day site inspection tour in advance of the big celebration in July. Our itinerary for the week consists of business meetings, site visits, and a bit of sightseeing.

Day 1 actually consisted of two days and started at 10am on Saturday when Gail and Kayla were bringing me the airport.  After we dropped Sean and Jake off at bowling, we made our way to YVR and I mentioned to Gail that I would need to get out at “Domestic Departures” because I was flying to Toronto first, then Munich, and then Krakow.

Vancouver Canucks Song: It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye – Zack, Kevin, and Eddie

In the span of one week, the Vancouver Canucks traded away three popular players: defenceman Kevin Bieksa, goalie Eddie Lack, and forward Zack Kassian. In fact, we had this song written for just Bieksa and Lack when we found out that Kassian had been traded…while we were preparing to shoot this video. Thus, we were able to add him albeit at the last minute.

To pay tribute to these three players, we went with a Boyz II Men classic: It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday. This is actually the third Boyz II Men song we’ve covered for the Canucks.

I’m joined by regular collaborators Marie Hui and Arielle Tuliao. As well, we welcome newlyweds Joseph and Marion San Jose, fresh off of their honeymoon to Rome where they gave a Canucks jersey to Pope Francis (with his name on it).  You may have heard about it.

Jacinta’s Corner: Name-Dropping with a 3 Year-Old

Jacinta and me
With Jacinta

When I was in Saskatoon last month, I was blessed to spend some time with an adorable and spunky 3 year-old named Jacinta.  She is the daughter of Colm and Sharon…both of whom I’ve known for many years through diocesan youth ministry.

Sharon has put together a great YouTube channel called Deep Thoughts featuring videos of Jacinta.  She has participated in dance-offs, monologues, public service announcements, and even helped announced pregnancies!

I put on my Vancouver Canucks jersey while Jacinta put on her Montreal Canadiens jersey and the game can-you-top-this was on.  Enjoy!
