End of the Road (We Thank You, Lu) – Farewell to Roberto Luongo

endroad

After eight memorable and exciting seasons with the Vancouver Canucks, goaltender Roberto Luongo was traded to the Florida Panthers on March 4, 2014.

Thus, Marie (www.mariehui.com, @mariehui on Twitter) and I wanted to bid Bobby Lu a proper farewell.  Inspired by Boyz II Men, we proudly present our version of their smash hit “End of the Road”.

Make sure you get to bridge of the song at the 3:11 mark…you won’t be disappointed.

Canucks Song: Against All Odds (Luongo’s Lament)

After a tumultuous and unpredictable season (and off-season), Roberto Luongo is back in the crease as the Vancouver Canucks’ undisputed number one goaltender.  There is no doubt that the past 18 months have taken its toll on Bobby Lu.

Thus, I proudly present to you Luongo’s Lament to the tune of Phil Collins’ hit Against All Odds.  And I’m so proud to welcome my friends Marie Hui and Arielle Tuliao as the featured vocalists.  You’ll see that they are lovely, talented, and amazing.

With Cory Schneider returning with his new team – the New Jersey Devils – on Tuesday, I thought it would an appropriate time to present this song.  Enjoy!

Clay’s Canucks Composition: Season of Cup (Our Team, Our Way)

For my first Clay’s Canucks Composition of 2013, I assembled four of the most talented Canucks fans around to put together a song to mark the start of the shortened 2013 season. Thus, I’m thrilled to present to you Season of Cup (based on Seasons of Love from RENT).

You’ll likely recognize most of the singers in this fun video.  Marie Hui helped me with my Canucks Medley in November 2011 while Arielle Tuliao and I got together for Don’t Stop Believing back in April for the Canucks’ playoff run.  I’ve been wanting to get these two amazing ladies together for a collaboration and I’m thrilled we made it happen!

The guys aren’t too shabby either.  Joseph San Jose is the star of all of my Canucks Christmas carols, and my good friend Gary de Guzman has one of the most pure voices around.

Put the four of them together (with me pounding on the piano) and you get a powerful anthem for the Vancouver Canucks as they look to get back to the Stanley Cup.

This is Our Team, Our Way…and Our Time.

Looking at the Bright Side: 5 Good Things about the Canucks’ Elimination

It’s been just over 24 hours since the Vancouver Canucks were unceremoniously eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Los Angeles Kings in just five games. As I outlined in my season-ending Clay’s Canucks Commentary, I was quite saddened and disappointed immediately after the game especially given the high hopes for the Canucks in the post-season.

After drowning our sorrows in some beef sashimi and salmon cones, my son Sean and I made it home just after 10pm. There, I was met by my lovely wife Gail.

“I’m so sad, disappointed and frustrated,” I lamented, “and I’m not even on the team!”

To which Gail replied “Well, you think you are!”

CCC – Clay’s Canucks Commentary for April 22, 2012: A Season Ends Much Too Soon

In my final regularly-scheduled CCC for the 2011-2012 season, I take a quick look at the disappointing end to the Vancouver Canucks season; a season that ended with 2 – 1 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings handily won the series 4 games to 1.

I share some quick thoughts on what issues the Canucks will have to tackle in the off-season and I also draw comparisons to the ending of this year’s playoff run to last year’s ending.

Thank you to all of you, the faithful viewers of these video blogs. I appreciate all of the comments, feedback, suggestions, and encouragement. See you next season and Go Canucks Go!
