Fussin’ With a Concussion

“Where’s my family?  WHERE’S MY FAMILY?!?”

These are the first words I remember uttering – make that screaming – after “waking up”.  Thankfully, my good friend Mike was there to calmly reply, “Clay, they are in the Philippines.” Apparently, he had to repeat himself about 15 times; once for every time I asked the question.

About 10 minutes earlier, I hit my head on the concrete floor while playing in a roller hockey playoff game.  I remember skating hard towards the opposing player before falling with him on top of me.  My head crashed against the ground and I groggily skated to the bench.  Appropriately, the name of the other team was the Goon Squad.

According to Mike and my other teammates, I sat at the end of the bench “out of it” for about 10 minutes or so. I was babbling coherently and incoherently, alternating between being able to name the guys on our team to not knowing what day of the week it was.

15 Things I’ve Learned About Through Marriage

Today, my lovely wife Gail and I celebrate 15 years of marriage as we received the Sacrament of Matrimony on Saturday, July 8, 2000 at St. Paul Parish in Richmond on a beautiful and sunny day.

On our 15th wedding anniversary, here are 15 things I’ve learned about through marriage; they are all essential aspects of our union. This isn’t an exhaustive list, and some of the things might not ring true for other couples.

But these are things that I believe we hold true and dear to our hearts. Some of these things I’ve learned directly from Gail, other things more indirectly. She may have even learned a thing or two from me. And we’ve learned many of these things together as a couple.

Vancouver Canucks Song: It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye – Zack, Kevin, and Eddie

In the span of one week, the Vancouver Canucks traded away three popular players: defenceman Kevin Bieksa, goalie Eddie Lack, and forward Zack Kassian. In fact, we had this song written for just Bieksa and Lack when we found out that Kassian had been traded…while we were preparing to shoot this video. Thus, we were able to add him albeit at the last minute.

To pay tribute to these three players, we went with a Boyz II Men classic: It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday. This is actually the third Boyz II Men song we’ve covered for the Canucks.

I’m joined by regular collaborators Marie Hui and Arielle Tuliao. As well, we welcome newlyweds Joseph and Marion San Jose, fresh off of their honeymoon to Rome where they gave a Canucks jersey to Pope Francis (with his name on it).  You may have heard about it.
