Under John Tortorella (Parody of Rihanna’s “Umbrella”) with Marie Hui

My new Canucks song is a tribute to John Tortorella – the brand new head coach of the Vancouver Canucks.  He brings with him passion, a wealth of experience, and a Stanley Cup win.

This song features the amazing Marie Hui and my son Sean doing some background vocals (along with camera work and holding up cue cards…haha).

I was happy that I got in Torts’ famous line from his first press conference in Vancouver: “If you’re a good loser, you’re a loser.”

Taking Ownership: Lessons from a 9 Year-Old and Club Penguin

Jake teaching Karen about Club Penguin

Last month, we had our good friend Karen over just a couple of weeks before she moved to Kelowna to begin employment with Disney Interactive.  When Karen told me that she would be working on the popular game Club Penguin, I told her that Jacob plays that game all the time.  Within a matter of minutes, we had set up a date for Karen to come over to our place to eat and then play.

Needless to say, Jacob was very excited for the opportunity to teach someone – and an adult at that – everything he knew about Club Penguin.  He counted down the days to Karen’s visit and he could barely contain his excitement when the day finally arrived.  After a delicious dinner (prepared by Gail of course), Jacob showed Karen the ins and outs of the game for the better part of two hours.  It was a great visual: Jake the eager 9 year-old as teacher and Karen the willing grown-up as obedient student.

20 Things I Likely Won’t Accomplish This Year…But it Would Be Cool if I Did

Could I end up on tour with Matt Maher?

Yesterday I posted 40 things that I plan to accomplish in the next year ahead of my 40th birthday.  Some will be harder to achieve than others, but I truly believe that there isn’t anything on the list that will be impossible to do.

That’s what today’s list is for.  So, enjoy 20 things that likely won’t happen this year…but it would be cool if they did:

  1. Go on tour (or at least on stage) with Matt Maher.
  2. Join Take 6 as its 7th member forcing them to rename themselves as Take 7.
  3. Join Naturally 7 as its 8th member forcing them to rename themselves Naturally 8.
  4. Sing a note above middle C without screaming (kind of important for #1, #2, and #3 on this list).
  5. Have Gail proclaim: “Wow, you actually are quite handy around the house.” Continue reading 20 Things I Likely Won’t Accomplish This Year…But it Would Be Cool if I Did

40 Things I Will Accomplish Before my 40th Birthday

Celebrating my 39th birthday at The Keg

As I enter my 40th year, there are many areas of my life that I would like to improve including my spirituality, my health, my work, my relationships, and my important roles as husband and father.  Thus, here are 40 things I will accomplish this year before my 40th birthday:

  1. Go to bed earlier.
  2. Get up earlier.
  3. Be less lazy.
  4. Pray more as a family.
  5. Get Archbishop Michael to laugh at one of my jokes because it’s funny and not out of sympathy.
  6. Be as much parent as I am playmate to my children.
  7. Help Sean discern which high school he will go to for grade 8.
  8. Spend more intentional one-on-one time with Jacob.
  9. Spend more intentional one-on-one time with Kayla.
  10. Take Gail out on more dates. Continue reading 40 Things I Will Accomplish Before my 40th Birthday
